Milling Benson Woodward was founded in 1896 with the formation of the partnership of Sigur, Milling and Sanders in Franklin, Louisiana. The Firm has offices in New Orleans, Lafayette, and Baton Rouge. The Firm’s Attorneys represent clients throughout the Gulf Coast, District of Columbia and other jurisdictions, as well as in Louisiana.
Milling Benson Woodward has a diversified client base representing business entities of all kinds, as well as individuals, foundations and other non-profit institutions. The Firm’s attorneys have experience in many industries, including banking and finance, oil and gas, railroads and other transportation companies, liquid terminal and bulk warehousing companies, shipping companies, real estate and landowner interests, public utilities, health care providers, professional licensure boards, insurance, commodity importers and exporters, hotels, retailers, wholesalers, food processors, business and personal service companies and manufacturers. These clients are engaged in the full range of commerce indicated in the description of the Firm’s practice.
The Firm has represented clients in international business transactions, litigation, arbitration, and maritime matters involving clients’ activities in Canada, Europe, Central and South America, Russia, Australia and the Pacific Rim, including Indonesia and Japan.

The Firm is a signatory to the Center for Public Resources, Inc., Statement of Alternatives to Litigation, and subscribes to its Policy Statement by pledging to use alternative dispute resolution procedures, where appropriate, to reduce its clients’ costs and the burden of litigation.
PUBLIC SERVICE AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Milling Benson Woodward was the first law firm in Louisiana to subscribe to the American Bar Association’s Law Pro Bono Project. Partners have been honored by the Louisiana Bar Foundation as Lawyer of the Year in the State of Louisiana.
The Firm’s partners have served as Chair of the Louisiana State Law Institute, as Presidents of the New Orleans Bar Association, as President of the Louisiana State Bar Association, on the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association and the National Bar Association, and as officers and directors of the New Orleans Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, sections and committees of the American, National, and Louisiana Bar Associations, the New Orleans Bar Association, and of the Maritime Law Association of the United States. Community activities include service as Chair of the Louisiana Stadium & Exposition District, Chair of the Board of Commissioners of City Park, Chair of the Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors, and membership on the boards of WYES and the National Conference for Community and Justice. Firm lawyers are active in many civic, community, charitable and religious organizations.
A number of the Firm’s partners have taught or currently teach as adjunct professors at Tulane, Loyola, and Southern Law Schools.
