Fillmore Riley LLP recognized in Chambers Canada 2017

Fillmore Riley LLP received recognition in the areas of Agribusiness: Agriculture and Food Products—Nationwide Canada and in General Business Law—Manitobain the recently released Chambers Canada 2017.

Chambers Canada covers lawyers and law firms practising in all provinces and territories in Canada. Chambers Guides are the culmination of thousands of in-depth interviews by the largest research team of its kind and are trusted globally to objectively rank the world’s best lawyers and law firms.

Chambers identified Fillmore Riley as the “the leading firm in Manitoba” in Agribusiness: Agriculture and Food Products, with Peter Davey and Jody Langhan listed as notable practitioners. Only two Manitoba-based firms were listed in this sector.

Chambers noted that Fillmore Riley is “universally acknowledged as a regional powerhouse for its impressive depth of expertise in agribusiness.” Chambers reported that in addition to assisting “a significant portfolio of farmers, grain handlers, grain processors, equipment manufacturers and agricultural trade associations with general corporate matters and related litigation,” Fillmore Riley is also recognized for its experience in compliance and regulatory matters.

In the area of General Business Law—Manitoba, Chambers Canada wrote that Fillmore Riley’s team is known for its “distinguished practice with impressive expertise across a breadth of business law matters.”

Chambers added that Fillmore Riley is recognized by market sources for its competency in banking and real estate, particularly in regard to mortgage lending and secured transactions. Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), taxation law and wills and estates law were also listed as the firm’s areas of strength.

Chambers stated that the market described Cy Fien as "the leading technical tax lawyer in Winnipeg.” Cy is “highly regarded for his prowess in tax mandates both regionally and throughout Canada, with additional experience handling trusts,” Chambers wrote.

Tim Dewart received recognition as a notable practitioner in banking and financial law. “[Tim] operates a well-respected practice within the institutional lending space in Manitoba. He has a track record for handling significant real estate mandates, with particular expertise in mortgage lending and financing,” Chambers wrote.

Chambers indicated that Jody Langhan “attracted praise for his “M&A and finance expertise.” Chambers also described the breadth of Jody’s practice, listing banking, transportation and agriculture sectors and Aboriginal law as a few of the key areas for which Jody received accolades.

Chambers Canada was published for the first time in October 2015 and will be published annually every October. The Chambers Guides have been ranking the best law firms and lawyers since 1990, now covering 185 jurisdictions throughout the world. The rankings are based on the research of 150 full-time editors and researchers.
