Stephen Mathias is the partner in charge of the Bangalore office of Kochhar & Co and head of the
Firm’s Technology Law Practice, the first of its kind in India .
Stephen is a graduate of the National Law School of India University, the premier law institution in India, where he obtained a B.A.; LL.B. (Hons.) degree. Stephen is also a British Chevening Scholar. In this connection, he did a course in "English and European Commercial Law" at the College of Law, York and also worked briefly at Wilde Sapte, a leading law firm in London.
Stephen’s expertise covers general commercial laws including foreign investment, commercial contracts, intellectual property, securities law, mergers and acquisitions, etc. Stephen worked for three years in the Tax and regulatory Division of Arthur Andersen in Mumbai and Bangalore. He later joined Kochhar & Co. as the partner at its Bangalore office.
Stephen is an expert in Information Technology Law and has wide experience in advising international information technology companies in India. His expertise includes information technology contracts, intellectual property, internet & e-commerce law, venture capital investment, employee benefits and securities offerings.
Stephen is a leading expert on internet & e-commerce law in India and represents most of the e-commerce service providers/payment gateway companies in India. He speaks frequently at conferences in India on the subject.
