Fillmore Riley LLP is pleased to announce that Jody Langhan has been appointed King’s Counsel. The honourary title recognizes extraordinary contributions to the practise of law.
To be appointed, a lawyer must have held a practising certificate for a minimum of 10 years, demonstrated outstanding practice as a lawyer, and contributed to the development of excellence in the legal profession. The title is given to a lawyer by the lieutenant-governor in council based on recommendations made by the minister of justice following consultation with an advisory council.
Jody is the Executive Chair of Fillmore Riley LLP, and led the firm’s commercial practice for 18 years. Recognized as one of Manitoba’s leading corporate lawyers, Jody represents many of the region’s largest corporations, public institutions, lenders and investors, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, asset transactions and corporate governance matters. He has market-leading experience in the agribusiness, transportation, and financial services sectors.
Of Métis heritage and French-speaking, Jody has had significant roles advising Manitoba First Nations and Tribal Councils on business initiatives promoting economic development and is counsel to several major provincial pension funds.
Jody’s appointment as King’s Counsel recognizes his longstanding commitment to the profession and the community through his leadership roles with numerous Winnipeg organizations and non-profits. He taught advanced business law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Manitoba. For three years, he served as the Co-Chair of the Professionals Division of the United Way Winnipeg Campaign Cabinet. He currently acts as the Past Chair of the Board of Trustees of FortWhyte Alive and sits on the Board of the Performing Arts Consortium of Winnipeg Inc., a charity that owns the Pantages Theatre.
