In 1903, two British citizens set up the first law practice in Uganda. In 1984, the firm was renamed to Kateera & Kagumire Advocates and is one of the largest independent law firms in Uganda.

The firm has a diverse group of lawyers with a broad range of knowledge and unparalleled experience in understanding the nature of the critical legal aspects and needs of the financial sector in Uganda. These professionals and staff are recruited to the firm after a rigorous, oral and written interview process with an emphasis on academic performance. They offer elite graduate students training programs for mentorship opportunities, frequent staff performance appraisals and continuing legal education for their lawyers.

Comprised of 5 partners, 4 associates, and 26 total staff, Kateera & Kagumire Advocates is consistently recognized by Chambers Global, IFLR and other legal publications as a leading firm in Uganda. Quite notably, Kateera & Kagumire Advocates was recently a part of the legal defense team in Uganda's Presidential petition of 2016 between Amama Mbabazi, Electoral Petition and Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
