Norm Fretwell is the partner who heads Spencer Fane's Financial Services Group. He also is a member of the firm's Executive Committee. He brings to our clients more than 25 years of banking, financing, and corporate experience. His practice emphasizes banking and finance, commercial transactions, corporate law, and small-business developmentNorm, a native of Joplin, Missouri, received his bachelor's degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, class of 1966, and was selected as First Captain of the Corps of Cadets as well as President of his class. The class of 1966 was the focus of the book, The Long Gray Line, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Rick Atkinson. Norm is a Vietnam veteran and also served as Senior Aide de Camp to the United States Commander of Berlin. Following military service, he received his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1973. Norm currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Brush Creek Enterprise Center, Inc., a Kansas City, Missouri business incubator associated with the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He is a member of the Bank Counsel Section of the Missouri Bankers Association and has served on the Executive Committee of the Kansas City Area Development Council. He serves on the Board of Directors of the American Legion Boys State of Missouri and is a Trustee of that organization's trust fund. He is a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America and he is a governor of the American Royal, a member of the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City, past President of the Kansas City Club and is former member of the Board of Directors of the national Refrigerated Foods Association. He is a member of the Missouri Bar, and the American Bar Association. He also participates in fund-raising and other activities for a number of charitable organizations.
