Tyler advises clients on trademarks and copyrights, data privacy, and corporate, transactional, and M&A matters.

In his trademark and copyright practice, Tyler helps clients understand how to best use and leverage their trademarks and copyrights from start to finish—from determining what type of protection is right for the client’s business, to the client’s branding, advertising, and intellectual property strategy, registration and maintenance, all the way to the licensing and enforcement of their trademarks and copyrights.

Tyler has worked with businesses of all shapes and sizes, including food and beverage companies, software and technology companies, design and fabrication studios, creative agencies, cannabis companies, and apparel brands.

Tyler consults Black Helterline’s clients on data privacy compliance—helping clients understand their compliance requirements, working with each one to determine the appropriate security measures based on their size and industry.

Tyler also handles clients’ corporate, transactional, and M&A matters. Advising throughout each stage of their company’s lifecycle, Tyler helps clients’ start, grow, manage, and transition their businesses.

Tyler has written on trademarks and copyright, unfair competition, advertising, and the power of open source software and hardware. He serves as an editor of the American Bar Association Landslide magazine on intellectual property, and volunteers with the Oregon Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and Small Business Legal Clinic.
