Contact: Carter Newell (Queensland, Australia)

The Queensland government delivered an early Christmas present to the local building and construction industry by flagging a long-awaited review of the Building and Construction Industry Payments Act 2004 (Qld) ("BCIPA").

On 21 December 2012, Minister for Housing and Public Works Mr Tim Mander MP released a discussion paper ("Discussion Paper") seeking feedback from industry stakeholders, head contractors, subcontractors and suppliers concerning the BCIPA's operations.

The broad scope of the matters raised by the Discussion Paper gives an indication of the Newman government's commitment to reform of the area.

Registered Adjudicator Mr Andrew Wallace has been appointed to review the submissions received, liaise with stakeholders and prepare a report to government with his findings and recommended options for reform.
