TAG Alliances Celebrates 25th Anniversary
Marking a significant milestone this year, TAG Alliances® commemorates its 25th anniversary. TAG Alliances traces its roots back to its beginnings in 1999 in Massachusetts when founder Peter Appleton Jones embarked on his vision to create an alliance of law firms called TAGLaw®. Later that year, a group of ten forward-thinking law firms joined Peter in Paris, France, for the first-ever TAGLaw International Conference.
Since then, the vision and mission of TAGLaw has expanded to other professional services sectors through the creation of The International Accounting Group® (TIAG®) in 2003 and a division for Strategic Partners (TAG-SP®) in 2013.
In 2015, the Appleton Jones family seamlessly transitioned the leadership of TAG Alliances to Richard and Melisa Attisha. Richard, a lawyer and former partner at TAGLaw’s Vancouver-based member firm, Harper Grey, and Melisa, a chartered accountant with international experience, were uniquely qualified and perfectly positioned to continue the legacy of TAG Alliances and lead the organization into a new generation.
Over the last quarter century, TAG Alliances has become one of the world's largest and premier multidisciplinary alliances, encompassing 22,000+ professionals, 280+ member firms, and 800+ offices in over 110 countries. Over the years, TAG Alliances has convened 49 International Conferences across five continents, numerous Regional Meetings, and regularly scheduled virtual events to help members build and strengthen relationships that lead to collaboration, referrals, and opportunities. TAG Alliances also continues to be a leader by developing and maintaining a powerful web platform, launching a mobile application, giving to various causes through its TAG Foundation, and providing white-glove service and innovative solutions to its global community of members.
Celebrating Longstanding Members at the 50th International Conference
As TAG Alliances commemorates its silver anniversary, festivities will take place throughout the year, including a celebration at its 50th International Conference, which will be held in Nashville, Tennessee, USA on May 1-3, 2024. At the Nashville conference, longstanding members in attendance will be presented with awards for their years of loyalty (see list of members below).

Carter Newell Lawyers Appoints New CEO
Carter Newell Lawyers approaches its 35th year with new leadership, welcoming CEO Marc Walker effective Monday, 26th February 2024.
In leading Carter Newell, Marc will work together with Paul Hopkins who has been the firm’s Managing Partner since 2017 and now the Chair of Partners and its Board, led by its Chair, Antonia Mercorella, CEO of the Real Estate Institute of Queensland.
Marc is relocating from Sydney to Brisbane and brings with him more than 20 years’ experience in operational, marketing, and business development leadership, spending the last seven years as Chief Operations Officer of a national law firm.
In accepting the role, Marc said, “It’s a particularly exciting time to be joining Carter Newell”.
“The firm has achieved tremendous growth, and I look forward to working with Paul, the board, the partners, and the broader team to continue this trajectory into the next stage.”
“I’m excited about injecting my own unique learnings and experience, while of course championing Carter Newell’s renowned culture and existing inherent strengths which have characterised its success over the years.”
Chair of Partners Paul Hopkins said Marc, who was selected after a rigorous and competitive search, will play a crucial role in Carter Newell’s future.
“The firm has a proud 35-year legacy, founded on a very genuine culture that recognises and openly encourages workforce diversity, and respectful and professional behaviours at all times,” said Paul.
“Exceptional client service is written into our DNA, and it will continue to form the basis of everything we do with a commitment to prompt, proactive and client-focussed legal service.”
“I’m very pleased to welcome Marc to the team who will steer the firm into the future.”
In his new role, Paul will focus on culture, recruitment, and business development, while continuing to lead and foster collaboration between both the partnership and management team.
He will maintain his strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity at all levels of the firm.
TAGLaw Named an “Elite” Global Legal Alliance for 11th Year by Chambers & Partners
TAGLaw®, the global alliance of more than 160 independent law firms in over 90 countries, has been recognized by Chambers & Partners as "Elite" for 2024—the highest ranking awarded to legal networks and alliances. This is the eleventh time TAGLaw has received the distinguished "Elite" designation since Chambers & Partners began ranking legal networks and alliances in 2013.
TAGLaw was also granted the opportunity to provide the guide's annual introduction for the fifth year. In "GLOBAL LAW FIRM NETWORKS: THE ELITE: An Introduction to Global Market Leaders," TAGLaw discusses the challenges faced by law firms in 2023 and the importance of belonging to a global alliance or network.
"We are honoured to be named an "Elite" international legal network/alliance for the eleventh year and to contribute our insights to the annual introduction for the [third] straight year," exclaims Richard Attisha, President & CEO of TAGLaw and TAG Alliances. "Through the years, Chambers & Partners, the most reputable legal ranking agency internationally, has consistently recognized the standing of our global alliance and our member firms and their lawyers. Our consistent achievement of the highest rankings bestowed upon legal alliances attests to the quality of our member firms. This is exemplified by their prominence in local markets and their ability to provide exceptional “white glove” client service."
In selecting networks and alliances for their "Elite" status, Chambers & Partners pays particular attention to the quality of the member firms, their global reach, and the value that the alliance provides to its member firms. TAGLaw, with a global footprint in over 90 countries, has over 160 leading firms providing legal services to companies ranging from the Fortune 5000 and leading SMEs to high-net-worth individuals. With expertise in dozens of practice areas and numerous industry sectors, TAGLaw offers a substantial capability to its members' clients. This capability is expanded by TAGLaw's unique relationship with its sister alliances of accounting firms (TIAG®) and strategic partners (TAG-SP®), which together provide exceptional multidisciplinary service and a competitive advantage to businesses that cross geographical borders.
